About the study
Designing an efficient hydrogen-electric aircraft requires careful balancing of lift and drag across a wide range of operating conditions. Aerodynamic performance directly impacts range, energy consumption, payload capacity, and overall system efficiency.
However, achieving this level of optimization through computational fluid dynamics (CFD) creates a significant bottleneck. High-fidelity simulations are both computationally and time-intensive, costing between $200 and $10,000 per run and requiring hours of engineering setup. Across a full development program, often exceeding 50,000 simulation cycles, this quickly becomes prohibitively expensive and slow.
As a result, engineering teams are forced to limit the number of design iterations they can evaluate, constraining exploration of the design space and slowing overall development.
